The Move-In Cleaning Checklist Every Condo Buyer Needs

There is exactly one moment when every surface in your home is reachable: the week between getting the keys and the arrival of your furniture. Miss it, and some of these jobs become ten times harder — or simply never happen. Here’s the list our crews work through on move-in deep cleans, in the order that makes sense.

Do these before anything else

• 1. Aircon chemical wash. Whoever lived there before, their dust is on the blower wheel. Service it while the floors can still get wet without consequence.
• 2. Cabinet and wardrobe interiors. Wipe every shelf with disinfectant and leave doors open to dry for a day. Once your things go in, these surfaces disappear for years.
• 3. Behind kitchen appliances. If the unit comes with a fridge or washer, pull them out now. The grime strip behind them belongs to the previous owner — don’t inherit it.

The middle pass

• 4. Bathroom descale and re-seal check. Descale screens and fittings, and inspect silicone lines; replacing tired sealant in an empty bathroom is a 30-minute job.
• 5. Window tracks and grilles. Vacuum, then wash. Tracks are the dust reservoir of every condo.
• 6. Ceiling fans and light fittings. Easiest with no bed underneath. You will not do this monthly later — do it properly now.
• 7. Walls and skirting. A soft-mop pass with sugar soap removes hand marks and prepping dust, especially if the unit was repainted.
• 8. Balcony floor and drainage hole. Clear the drain now, before the first monsoon evening tells you it was blocked.

The final polish

• 9. Full floor scrub. Not a mop — a scrub. Grout haze, polish residue and construction film all come off before rugs go down.
• 10. Disinfection pass. High-touch points plus a fogging treatment if the unit was tenanted or vacant for long.
• 11. Fresh air cycle. Open everything for a full day. New paint, sealants and cleaning products all off-gas; give them an exit.

Doing it yourself vs. booking it out

All eleven points are doable solo across two or three weekends — if the keys aren’t burning a hole in your pocket. A professional crew of three finishes a typical two-bedroom unit in a day, equipment included. Either way: do it before the boxes arrive.
