How Often Does a KL Home Really Need a Deep Clean?

Planning a home deep-cleaning schedule on a calendar

Ask five cleaning companies and you’ll get five answers — usually correlated with how many deep cleans they’d like to sell you. Here’s the honest version, based on thousands of jobs across the Klang Valley: most homes with weekly or fortnightly maintenance cleaning need a full deep clean once or twice a year. The interesting part is what moves you off that baseline.

Add a deep clean sooner if…

  • You wok-cook daily. Aerosolised oil settles as a film on upper cabinets, walls and fan blades far beyond the kitchen. Heavy cooks benefit from a kitchen-focused deep clean every four to six months.
  • You have shedding pets. Fur and dander work into upholstery and under furniture where weekly vacuuming doesn’t reach. Twice yearly, plus fabric extraction annually.
  • Haze season hit hard. After a bad API stretch with windows open, fine particulates coat every horizontal surface. A one-off detail pass clears what daily dusting smears around.
  • Anyone at home has allergies or asthma. Quarterly is a genuine health investment here — the dust-mite load in humid climates is relentless.
  • The home has no regular cleaning help. If cleaning happens “when there’s time”, twice a year stops the slow slide that makes each session harder.

You can stretch it out if…

Small households, light cooking, good aircon filtration and consistent weekly maintenance can honestly run twelve months between deep cleans without the home suffering. Signs you’ve stretched too far: grout darkening, a musty note when the aircon starts, and dust reappearing within a day of wiping.

The schedule most clients settle on

One deep clean timed a few weeks before the year’s big hosting moment — Raya, CNY or Deepavali, depending on the household — and a lighter top-up mid-year. It front-loads the payoff to when the house is full of guests and keeps the interval short enough that neither session becomes an archaeology project.
